Rep. Delgado Visits The Mount Academy, Discusses Public Service with Students
ESOPUS, NY — This morning, U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) visited the Mount Academy in Esopus where he toured the school, addressed students in grades nine through twelve on the importance of public service and his experiences during his first year in Congress, and answered questions.
“I believe that civic engagement and public service are some of the most important things to be talking about with our young people as they prepare to be our future,” said Delgado. “I’m thankful for the opportunity to visit the Mount Academy in Esopus today, see the school, and meet with the students to answer their questions and hear about their priorities and concerns.”
Delgado has prioritized hearing from students across NY-19, and last year held an education and workforce development themed in-district work week focused on meeting young people across the district in workforce development programs, public schools, and universities. In 2019, Delgado introduced bipartisan legislation that strengthens FAFSA for working and non-traditional students and increases higher education opportunities, as well as the Young Farmer Success Act which would add farmers and ranchers to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Both of these bills were included in the College Affordability Act, a landmark bill that reauthorizes higher education programs.
