SCHOHARIE COUNTY, NY – Today, U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) toured the Murphy Road site with Assemblyman Chris Tague, Senator Peter Oberacker, and Town of Wright Supervisor Alex Luniewski. Murphy Road has suffered erosion and storm damage since the late 1980's and requires additional repairs to protect public safety. The officials discussed the need for infrastructure investments.

“Schoharie County families need reliable infrastructure,” said Rep. Delgado. “Thank you, Assemblyman Tague, Senator Oberacker, and Town Supervisor Luniewski, for your shared commitment to repairing Murphy Road. Across upstate, our roads and bridges are failing – we must invest in infrastructure to protect public safety and support local economies. Our small businesses, families, and farmers are counting on safe roads to transport their loved ones and products. As a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, I will keep fighting for robust federal investment.”

“This project is not something we can wait any longer to address, and we must do so in a comprehensive way to ensure the safety for decades to come of the community along Fox Creek, in particular Murphy Road,” said Assemblyman Tague. “If we allow the erosion to continue, it will place nearby residents who are dependent on the road in great danger, as it will make it much more difficult for first responders to reach them in the case of an emergency. We need to do this now, and we need to do this right.”

“Infrastructure improvements are essential to public safety and economic development,” said Senator Oberacker. “By bringing together all levels of government we can work together to help those in the Town of Wright. The issue along Fox Creek did not develop overnight and it will take a concerted effort from all levels of government to develop a long-term solution.”

"The Fox Creek is an aggressive waterway that has been encroaching on the residences of the people who live above it since Hurricane Irene," said Town of Wright Supervisor Alex Luniewski. "Major bank stabilization is needed to protect the residents; this became very evident with the undermining of Murphy Road, forcing it's closure. I would like to thank Congressman Delgado for taking the time to come to the Town of Wright to see this, first hand, giving hope and peace of mind to the residents who live above this formidable waterway, letting them know they are not forgotten."
