Rep. Delgado Meets with Elected Officials in Dutchess, Ulster, and Sullivan Counties to Discuss Local Government Funding
DUTCHESS, ULSTER, AND SULLIVAN COUNTIES, NY – U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) met with elected officials from the Towns of Hyde Park, Fallsburg, Rosendale, and Marbletown to discuss direct federal COVID-19 relief. Last week, House of Representative Committees released their COVID-19 relief package framework. The package includes an estimated total of more than $400 million in direct federal funding to counties, towns, and villages across New York's 19th Congressional District. Rep. Antonio Delgado worked with his colleagues to incorporate this formula in the latest House COVID-19 package.
“Towns like Hyde Park, Fallsburg, Rosendale, and Marbletown have lost critical revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Rep. Antonio Delgado. “This shortfall, combined with an increase in essential services, has put critical projects on the backburner. The House's latest COVID-19 relief proposal would ensure local governments can continue serving residents and upgrading town systems, like wastewater treatment plants and crumbling roads. I thank upstate elected leaders for sharing how meaningful this aid would be to their communities -- I'll keep fighting until Congress delivers direct relief.”
“Knowing that Congressman Delgado is working on behalf of municipalities like Hyde Park is reassuring during this very difficult and uncertain time,” said Town of Hyde Park Supervisor Aileen Rohr. “Along with the human devastation as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we at the local level are experiencing pervasive levels of economic devastation that require our federal government to provide the support where it is needed most. The Direct Support for Communities Act proposed by the Congressman will mitigate economic fallout, fund long term economic growth, and ensure Hyde Park can continue providing good service to its residents.”
“Thank you so much Congressman Delgado for visiting the Rosendale Town Board yesterday,” said Town of Rosendale Supervisor Jeanne L Walsh. “We were very excited about the good work you are doing for local government, and small towns like Rosendale. We are very happy to hear that in the current House proposal, Rosendale will be eligible for $1 million in COVID-19 relief from the federal government due to Representative Delgado’s hard work. Thank you for all you do.”
“Discussing options for a COVID-19 Relief with Congressman Delgado rewarded myself and staff a feeling of relief,” said Town of Fallsburg Supervisor Steven Vegliante. “Funding that is very much needed for the Town will be used towards the cost of Public Health that will serve as security for Fallsburg residents and beyond.”
